As we continue to grow, we look forward to leveraging our brand platform and voice to highlight those that inspire and influence us on a daily basis. We’ve had the honor of partnering with The SHIFT Beat Tape series, an experience that gives producers 8 hours to create a beat tape which brings incredibly talented, national music producers to the forefront of their craft when it comes to production.
For the last session, we caught up with Latrell James, the Boston/Dorchester native, who gives back to his community through providing access to production studios and has a raving fan base. Not to mention, the dude kills it on every stage he touches…
So Latrell, how would you describe what you do in the music industry for those who may not know?
I’m a creator. That’s the simple explanation. Creator of sounds, energy and mood. Whether I’m on stage or behind the keyboard, I’m always creating.
What brought you to The SHIFT Beat Tape Series?
I recall The Arcitype doing this full beat tape in a day a couple of years back. I always that it was a great challenge to producers and forces them to be strategic in the creative process because of time limitations. I was very fortunate to have him reach out and include me as a part of the series.
New England has a tremendous amount of talent when it comes to music, what would you say differentiates your style?
I feel like I represent the soul of the city. Fun, witty and serious soul. I’m from Dorchester, which is a melting pot of cultures and people. My music reflects that.
Which LHBCo beer would you say pairs best with your beat tape while listening?
Glorious. I think I had 2 of those in the creation of that beat tape with my brother – but Boomsauce is by far my favorite LHBCo beer.
Shout out to my mom and dad, new album coming soon.
